Satellite broadcaster DirecTV
quietly introduced a self-contained, portable satellite TV at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, this month. The product, called the Sat-Go, combines a 17" LCD with a satellite receiver and an onboard battery. It is not clear if the LCD is a 16:1 widscreen or not - nor is it clear how long the system will operate from its internal battery. Still, a product like this is a boon for campers who need to stay in touch with the rest of the world, particularly during football season! I like the fact that the unit will operate off of DC power, which would use a lot less battery power than inverted AC power. I also like the portable nature of the TV. I might watch some news while I sip my morning coffee, and it would sure be nice to be able to do it outside on a picnic table, or on the beach - not stuck inside the camper, where the TV is.
